In the Lankavatara Sutra there is a combined word, Vivikta – Dharma which means the Dharma of Solitude. When you experience it for yourself, you will meet the Buddha in this koan. You will know, then, that Buddha preached not only coming to the seat, but also going down from it. All that we see and hear and think, all objects of consciousness, are what arise and disappear from this Dharma of Solitude.
Verse by Wanshi:
Behold the Dharma of Solitude!
Dame Nature sits at the loom
And weaves the brocade of spring.
Let her alone!
Don’t betray her secret,
You mischievous wind!
